What changed
Florida State is 0-0, and the middle-of-the-pack expectation still fits. Since Oct. 15, Abaev scored 26 in the widely reported 89-87 exhibition win over LSU, and the Tallahassee Democrat reported that frontcourt player Alex Steen became available through a court injunction. The transfer questions are unchanged. Exhibitions are still practice.
Why it matters
Florida State is 0-0 after an 18-15 finish, and it needed 26 points from freshman guard Shon Abaev to edge LSU 89-87 in an exhibition. Head coach Luke Loucks has fresh scorers and the same rebuild to coach.
What to watch
Watch Taylor's efficiency and turnover control against Florida, Tennessee and Houston. Then see whether the defensive rotations sharpen when the games count.
What would change our mind
The rebuild call falls apart if Florida State defends in the ACC's top half and gets steady lead-guard production for several regular-season weeks. A November home stumble or an injury to a key transfer forces a rewrite.
The counterevidence
- Taylor must turn lower-major volume into ACC creation against longer defenders. No regular-season result has shown that his efficiency travels.
- Point-of-attack defense is unproven. On3 reported that Loucks targeted improvement before Auburn, and exhibitions against Auburn and LSU settled nothing about getting stops.
